The air mass sensor – also known as an "air flow meter" – is used for determining the aspirated mass air
flow of the vehicle and ensures, among other things, optimized fuel injection. During remanufacture, all

The air mass sensor is an advancement of the volume air flow meter in modern vehicles. The difference is
that the volume air flow meter measures only the recorded air volume, while the air mass sensor can also
measure the air mass, temperature and humidity. This yields more exact values for the vehicle's control
unit, which helps to create the perfect fuel/air mixture.
A voltage signal tells the control unit that the air has been aspirated and to what extent the fuel/air
mixture is to be injected. The aspirated air is recorded by a wire or resistor, the temperature of which
must be kept constant at all times. The aspirated air has a cooling effect, and the air mass sensor can
perform up to 1,000 control and measuring cycles per second. This allows instant optimization of the
injection procedure, allowing the vehicle to perform optimally whatever the driving situation.
