What are the product advantages of the Mercedes-Benz Genuine Remanufactured air mass sensor?

The air mass sensor ensures an optimal engine combustion process. Modern Mercedes-Benz engines require an air mass sensor to determine the available oxygen mass and the fuel quantity to be injected, whereby high engine output is generated. In addition, an optimal fuel/air mixture facilitates a reduction in fuel consumption and pollutant formation. As a remanufactured spare part, the air mass sensor is just as reliable and functional as a new part.

How does an air mass sensor work?

The air mass sensor is a further development of the volume air flow meter in modern vehicles. The difference is that the volume air flow meter measures only the recorded air volume, while the air mass sensor can determine the air mass, temperature and humidity. This delivers more precise values for the vehicle control unit, whereby an optimal fuel/air mixture can be generated.

The air mass sensor measures the drawn in air mass that the engine requires for combustion and transmitting a voltage signal to the control unit. For this purpose, the temperature of a heated wire or resistor is measured that must be kept at a constant, uniform temperature. The voltage signal varies depending on the required voltage level for keeping the wire or resistor temperature constant. For a high drawn-in air mass, the voltage is high as a high volume of air cools the temperature of the wire. For a low drawn-in air mass, the voltage is low as the wire is cooled only a little by the drawn-in air. The control and measuring processes take place up to 1,000 times a second; the injection process can thus be rapidly adjusted by the control unit.

What are the symptoms of a defective air mass sensor?

  • Engine output is noticeably worse at low engine speeds
  • Maximum design speed is not reached
  • The output is delayed when the accelerator pedal is actuated
  • Kickdown in an automatic transmission shows no function
  • Higher fuel consumption
  • Exhaust emission values deteriorate
  • Jerky driving characteristics
